COMMUNITY THERAPY SERVICES FREE Developmental Screenings Monday through Friday, 9:15 AM - 4:00 PMThe developmental specialists at Community Therapy Services will screen children 4 months through 5 years of age at no charge. It takes less than 1/2 hour and you'll find out whether your child needs further evaluation. If your child is under the age of 3 and needs further testing and treatment, the State of Illinois may pay for services. A board-certified music therapist / developmental therapist crafts activities that will delight your child and address social, language, and motor skills. Singing, dancing, stories, and puppet play encourage listening, attention, and following directions. For ages 3 to 5. Motor Mouths: Fridays / 9:30 - 11:00 AM For ages 3 to 5, Motor Mouths is for children who have delays in speech or whose speech is difficult to understand. A speech therapist leads this group with kid-friendly activities that promote sound awareness and speech development. Sensory Allstars: Tues - Fri (8/12, 8/13, 8/14, 8/15) / 9:30 - 11:30 AM What could be a better sensory experience than our own Blazing Prairie Stars therapy barn? The sensory butterfly gardenm the animals, and the great outdoors make an ideal sensory camp location. Mondays / sessions available from 9:00 AM - 7:30 PM Equine-Assisted Therapy Physical, occupational, and speech therapists use the movement of a horse to achieve functional goals for their clients. Sessions are designed to meet specific individual needs, such as mobility, muscle strength, motor coordination and planning, sensorimotor functions, speech production, communication, and many others. Our therapists have expertise in working with a wide variety of challenges and disabilities. ____________________________________________________
Holiday and summer camps available Therapeutic Riding Therapeutic riding is for all abilities and all ages from 6 years on up. This program focuses on giving persons with special needs a fun, recreational experience and the chance to learn new skills and develop a new interest. Semi-private classes are taught by a registered NARHA instructor who tailors instruction around individual goals. Thursdays / 4:15 - 5:15 PM, 5:30 - 6:30 PM, 6:30 - 7:30 PM Friendship Connection This program is for ages 6-14 (children are grouped by age) who would like to enhance their friendship and social skills. Through individual and cooperative problem-solving activities with each other and the horses, participants will practice social skills in a fun and safe way. As they work to develop a relationship with a horse and others in the group, participants will practice communicating effectively, reading the emotions of others, being assertive, cooperatineg compromising, and building rapport, trust, and respect.Call (630) 365-5550 for reservations and information. ____________________________________________________ Tuesdays / 5:00 - 6:00 PM (Super Sibs I) Fridays / 6:00 - 7:00 PM (Super Sibs II) Super Sibs This program is for children who have a sibling with a disability. It's a fun and exciting recreational / therapeutic group experience for children ages 6 through 14. Children are grouped by age. They explore, through activities with horses, issues related to self-esteem, empathy, expressing needs, and self concept. Groups are led by a licensed social worker and a horse professional. Super Sibs II is a group for children who have already completed Super Sibs I. Super Sibs is sponsored by Hoofbeats & Heartbeats, a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization, which allows us to offer a family-friendly fee of only $10.00 per child per week. Additional siblings are $5.00 each. This is a mandatory orientation for anyone who wishes to assist in any way with Blazing Prairie Stars.
